John 18:33-37 A King Not of This World

Have you ever been somewhere where you feel like you don't belong? In a group where you just didn't fit in? We often think of Jesus as a King, but take these words to heart. His Kingdom is not of this world. You may feel like you don't fit in, but Jesus truly didn't fit in... but He chose to come. He chose to be the odd one out for a purpose.

Exodus 4:1-17 God’s Power Is Made Perfect in Weakness

Do you feel that you have had enough, are simply exhausted, and just want someone else to carry the load for a while? If you do, you feel like Moses did right before God sent him to deliver the Israelites from slavery. However, even though Moses felt like he couldn’t do what the Lord was asking, God used his weakness to display his power. God does the same through you. When you are weak, he shows his power all the more in and through you. God’s power is made perfect in weakness.

Mark 10:17-27 How Much Would You Bet on Jesus?

A young, successful man wanted to know how much he had to give to get into heaven. Jesus responded, “everything.” This man was very invested in the world so the answer he received was too much for him. As we look at God's response we too may feel the cost is impossibly high, but God knows this and immediately gives hope. Even though we are incapable of giving everything without fail to God, Jesus has on our behalf.

So the new question Jesus forces us to consider is this, “Will you continue to bet on yourself OR will you wager everything on me?”

Mark 10:2-16 Jesus Stands For Marriage and Children

The closest we can get to a mirror of the love of God for us is the mirror of the love that he wants us to have for one another in the family. The goal of family members is to reflect the love of God for us in self giving love for one another in the family. How tragic that in our society such a mirror is clouded indeed! There is much to repent of and much to strive toward. Let us turn to the one who not only gives us a pattern of perfect self-giving love, but also has filled and empowered us with it.

Mark 8:27–35 How to Save a Life

Believing in God is not always convenient. Sometimes that belief will cause us to go through more pain than we otherwise would. However, we continue to believe and follow our Lord because what we believe in is so life-changing. We endure our own cross because we know that on a cross the Son of God saved us from our sin, our death, and an eternity without hope. That is worth our undying devotion.

Mark 7:31-37 God’s Sign-Language

Unbelief mocks and says that if God did all things well and was the source of all good because he is good, then he shouldn’t allow misery and need in the first place. But especially in need and suffering God does all things well; that truth is the center of the Christian’s quiet confidence. It is the reason for our hope based on the promises of God and earned for us by the work of Christ and its eternal consequence for us.

Ephesians 6:10-20 Prepared for War

For the past seven weeks, we have been walking through the book of Ephesians together. Paul has been teaching and training us to live in the grace we have been given through Jesus Christ. He closes his book by preparing us for the warfare ahead. We are not only up against a world that is full of sin and our own nature which is corrupt, but we also face spiritual forces of evil working behind the scenes to destroy us. To stand firm against all of these enemies we need to put on the full armor which God gives us. Fortified by our Lord, his Word, and his mighty power, we press onward into the fray confident of the victory ahead.

Ephesians 5:21–31 Committed to Real Love

How do we really love?
It begins with the word submit. I know this is a word that our culture doesn't like very much. It is probably a word you don't like very much. However, in that word is the key to really loving one another. Submit means that we place someone else's will, well-being, and welfare over our own. We serve. We give. We sacrifice. Love is about the other... and not about you.
This is not the "love" WE often see or do.
This IS the love we have been shown and given by our Savior.
This IS the love he calls us to learn from him and empowers us to do.

Ephesians 5:15–20 Guided by a Higher Purpose

How do you live your life?  Wisely or not?  That seems like a silly question. Who is going to say unwise?  Last week our reading gave us a heart check for honesty.  Do we truly confess and react to our sins or do we just say we do?  This week’s reading takes this a step further.  How do we live our life… for this world or God?  The world around us lives for the moment and pressures us to do the same.  Listen to Paul’s words.  Live for God, serve His will.  This world, these moments won’t last, but through the mercy and love of God we will experience something that will last forever.

Ephesians 4:30-5:2 Godlike in Attitude

Do you have everything under control?  You are thinking this answer in your mind so be honest.

No, you don’t… good!  You are being honest with yourself.  This text reminds us to be honest with ourselves and with God.  You know yourself and God knows you better… yet still he calls us his own!  We are his dearly loved children, forgiven through Christ!  Listen and be honest with yourself, it only magnifies the grace of our God.

Ephesians 4:17-24 Renewed in Mind

Cake is delicious! I want to eat it all the time... but I can't just eat cake.  What would happen if people only ate cake?  It wouldn't be good.  The same is true with our life.  There are many things that we would love to enjoy all the time, but God tells us that if we do, we will destroy ourselves and those around us. Instead, he calls us to a new way of life. This life is not about simply satisfying our cheap desires, but striving toward the deeper and more meaningful things that God gives us to enjoy in this life and the next. This all begins with the Word of God that renews our mind again and again through our growing faith in Jesus our Savior...

What makes a good team?  A good team doesn't just take talented individuals, it takes unity. As the church, we are part of a very prestigious team: the Body of Christ. This team needs one another. Each member of the church has been gifted to support the rest. Let us unite and use the our unique gifts to support the rest of the body so that "we would in all things grow up into Christ, who is the head."
